When practice is cancelled

Well, we all hate to get the e-mail saying that practice is cancelled. Even if it's because of an epic snowstorm... That turned out to not be epic at all... But we have snow in NYC and I love it, even if both practice on Monday was cancelled and drop-in scrimmage yesterday... But Gotham ALLSTARS have off-skate homework... And this is when living with Violet and Vish really has its perks... Off-skate workout two days in a row with Vish, Violet and Kenbo... Yeah... I am so ready for this season to get kicking!!

It's snowing in NYC

So we are supposed to get a crazy amount of snow and there is a citywide emergency alert, trains and roads are shutting down. And worst of all practice got cancelled. Living with two other Gotham Allstars have the perk (?) that we still got motivated and did a work-out. So much fun! I love having people to work out with! I'm not really that great of a self-motivator.

It's crazy how the entire city is shutting down over some snow... But we are all set, we bought a bunch of religious candles at the bodega, in case the electricy goes out. We are stocked with food, Violet is making chili, Vish is gonna bake shortbread cookies (my favourite) and I'm gonna make the Swedish version of mulled wine (Glögg). Yay for having the best roomies and friends ever!

When the SNOW came to Stockholm

I left home in a rush and wore the wrong shoes, this ain't no weather for heels, worked while blizzard was raging outside, I felt joy. I came home and my block had a black out and I had to take a shower in the dar with candles lit. And then I wore better shoes and made my way out again.

And when I came home... there was a black-out
this is what it looked like in the mornig

Me and snowboarding are finally friends again...

It was AMAZING to snowboard again - i miss it - and i finally feel like I have à healthy relationship to snowbaording. We can have fun together - and I wanna go again, and again... and again... who wanna come with?

When I quit snowboarding it was like breaking up from a long relationship - and even today I have a hard time to talk about part of the life I lived back then. To be honest, I was a very unsecure 20-something, I wanted so much, I felt so much and most of all I never felt like I fitted in.
I truly loved snowboarding, and I was good, really good, but I never became as good as I wanted to, and I was good, and that took it's toll on my selfesteem, and so did the constant struggle to proof myself as a girl in a very male-dominated world. I never felt pretty enought, I always felt like a gigant and still I LOVED to snowboard, the way the early crisp wintermorings made me feel.
There was somethign about the peacefulness of snowboarding, the physical demanding part, the limits that I had to push and always standing strong. I never cried, I was a little manic, I was so many things and at the same time I never felt comfortble in my own skin. It was a time of searching and longing to belong.

And then we went snowboarding...

I'm not kidding - Loony is way to good at snowboarding :-)
It's only her second time, and except from when she yelled at me in the lift, I think she did amazing. Fearless!

Vacation in the North...

So me and Loony are in the North of Sweden at a skiiresort called Åre. We just got here today and decided to go for a walk in the ski-hill... Yeah, we probably looked like two giant toddlers... We kept on throwing ourself downhill and rolling in the soft but heavy and knee-deep snow...

Had an amazing dinner and now we are on our backs watching TV and feeling the excitement of going snowboarding tomorrow... It's Loonys third time!

New Years in Dalarna 2011/2012

Me and Loony partner skating
Me, Loony and five of our close friends (Husse, Jazz, Enoc, Amy and Only) went to Sågmyra, where my mother grew up, and celebrated New Years in my grandparents old house. It totally became another lesbian boot-camp - but this year we had no straight friend to harass... we missed Sarra and Kris from previous year!
We downloaded the 'Truth or Dare' app and went skiiing, snowboarding, ice-skating, cooked, chatted and just spent time together.
We were a little nervous there would be no snow there, and it was not as much snow as last year, but it was better than none at all, as it is in Stockholm right now.

Loony doing piruettes in the sunset

It got colder during the days we were there, and we even dared to skate on one of the local lakes (totally freaked me out for a bit) and we went for an amazingly beutiful walk in the sunset (sun sets arond 16.00).
We are currently trying to talk Enoc into starting derby, she is tall and blonde, so we think she might fit really well for the task...
A new addition to this years celebrating was putting make-up on each other, while the person putting the make up on was blindfolded... Oh, yeah - and a sauna... and a sauna and snow can never go wrong!

Jazz cooked us an AMAZING New Years dinner... it was nice and tasted amazzzing!

Jazz going for the best make-up job on me ever

Happy New 2012 to all of you!

Snow, snow, more snow and familytime....

(Snowblades anyone? Medborgarplatsen in Stockholm by HyperNova)

We are heading to Stockholm later today, right now we're in the middle of nowhere in Denmark... First we are going to celebrate some Christmas with Malous family and then grab a train back to Copenhagen, collect some presents and head to Malmø, grab my car and slowly start to make our way up to Stockholm, to celebrate more Christmas with my family.

Hopefully we can get some skating in, I'm coaching on the 26th of December and then I think we might try to go to Frysen on the 27th and do some indoor ramp-skating!

Lesbian Drama and snow

(Snowy streets in Malmø, picture stolen from sydsvenskan.se)

No kidding, Scandinavia is frozen, we are deep in the fridge, there is snow and ice wherever we turn, and it is not common. I know, we get snow, in the NORTH, north of Stockholm where I am from, NOT in Copenhagen and Malmø, not to this extent... this will be a white christmas. Trains are late and cars slide of the streets and I have left Copenhagen to spend the 23rd at Malous family and then we will be heading up to Stockholm to spend the rest of Christmas with my family!

Me and Malou just discovered Lip Service... a lesbian drama series from BBC, and Frankie is HOT HOT HOT... and looks and acts EXACTLY like Shane from L-word. We don't care, we still think she is hot! Same, same but different! So tonight that is waht we are going to do, watch the last episode of Lip Service! Sadly there are only six episodes so far, but I am planning on writing nice little letters to BBC BEGGING for another six, because SERIOUSLY, it is better than L-word because there is no annoying Jenny... peeew...

Me and Malou are going to practice with the Stockholm girls on the 26th, well, I think I am probably coaching, and it be awesome and fun! I miss skating...
